Project 52: Week 17

Week 17 (Feb 26):  MACRO LENS!
I got a macro lens this week!  Finally!  The Nikon 105, 2.8 :)  Not only is it a great macro lens, but I've heard that it works really well as a portrait lens too, so double yay! I've had my eye on it for over a year and I nearly got it for my birthday, but then we had some major car repairs, a vacation, my sister's baby shower gift, Christmas, etc. that all needed our financial attention a little more than my hobby.  So I've been putting it off until a time when I'd feel better about a splurge.  However, it recently went on sale, and I couldn't resist any longer.  I love it so much even though I still haven't had a lot of time to test it out (spring flowers, watch out!).
Here are a couple of my favorite shots from it so far.  I tried desperately to a get a good snowflake shot with it yesterday, but it was just didn't happen for one reason or another.  I think I need to get more familiar with how the lens works and then by next winter I'll be ready for those teeny flakes.

I love these photos! Black and white portraits are my favourites. What a gorgeous little boy.
Nice lens! It works very well. Could you tell me at what distance you can approach of your subject with it? thanks for sharing. xx cathy
Jess! I love those pictures of the little guy! so sweet! I want some new glass, but it's going to wait for a bit. With getting serious about buying a house and needing new vehicle as well as an emergency vet trip, my little hobby is stuck where it is ;)

Thank you so much for joining us again! Sorry for not getting to you sooner; busy weekend.

Thank you everyone!

Annie- I absolutely love everything in B&W, especially portraits though :)

Cathy- I can get as close as about 6 inches to the subject. there's also a focus option for close-up shots that is different from standard distance shots (so the camera doesn't have to spend so much time searching for focus when I am using it for more "normal" purposes). It's a little different than the lenses I'm used to, so I'm still figuring it all out.

Jen- I saved up for a long time to get this lens (prior to this I used extension tubes for macro shots, but I used them so much that I wore out the connectors and they no longer worked). and even then when I finally had saved up as much as I wanted to we had a slew of more important bills to take care of so it was delayed even longer. but it ended up working out for the best in the long run because I was able to buy it on sale and now I definitely appreciate it with no buyers remorse or spending guilt. I really wish photography weren't such an expensive hobby. It will definitely be a while before any new purchases. But I like the idea of making what you have work, and your pictures prove that you can do that!
